The alabaster wall statue of
Rachel Portman, who died in 1632,
was placed on the south wall of
Old St. Pauls Church, Bickenhall.
At that time Rachel was kneeling
at her prayer desk beneath a pillared
canopy. When the church was demolished
in 1849, the statue, minus the prayer
desk and the pillared canopy, was erected
in the new St Pauls Church - now
Neroche Hall. When this church was
declared redundant in 1970, the statue
was moved to St Peters, Staple Fitzpaine
where it remains today.
