| NOTES FROM NEROCHE PARISH COUNCIL MEETING ON 8TH MARCH 2001.
The Parish Council was pleased to welcome Mr Tony Martin of Seaford Grange, Bickenhall who
has been co-opted onto the Council as a member for Bickenhall.
The Council discussed the usual problems in relation to road safety issues and were
particularly disappointed to note that a decision has been taken not to impose any weight
restrictions on the Staple Fitzpaine or Blagdon Hill road. Further representations will be
made with regard to the Staple Fitzpaine road.
It was noted that the travellers' encampment at Middleroom Drove had now left but that a
new camp had appeared at Orchard Portman, and that they had been granted temporary permission
to stay as precaution against the spread of foot and mouth disease.
It was also agreed by the Council that a copy of this Article would be allowed to appear on the
Stoke St Mary/Thurlbear/Orchard Portman web site which has been set up and is run by Mr Alan
Prime.
The Council also agreed that it would be involved in an action group being set up by local
Parishes to lobby the Ministry of Defence and RNAS Yeovilton with regard to low flying over
this area. The Council was informed that air traffic is likely to increase when the proposed
re-organisation of RNAS Yeovilton takes place and the Chinook helicopters are based there,
which are much larger and noisier than the aircraft presently based at Yeovilton.
The next meeting of Neroche Parish Council is on Thursday, 10th May at 7.45 p.m. in
Neroche Hall Committee Room.
