Taunton, Somerset, England - Borough Ward of
Neroche.
Parishes of Orchard Portman with Thurlbear,
Staple Fitzpaine, Bickenhall and Curland.
Thursday 10th May 2001. Among the topics for discussion was the usual round up of road safety and repair issues. The Council remains concerned about the amount of heavy traffic using the Staple Fitzpaine to Taunton road which is showing early signs of failure in some places. Particular concerns were voiced regarding the routing of traffic from car boot sales on the racecourse along Orchard Portman lane, especially when it was noted that over one thousand cars are using this narrow lane. Mr Richard Salisbury reported to the meeting that a group has been set up to monitor increased air traffic in the area which is likely to occur as a result of a reorganisation of Yeovilton air base. Five parish councils are now involved. The Council was plased to note that a grant has been made available from Taunton Deane Millennium funds to assist in the purchase of street signs for Winterwell and Badger Street. The balance of the cost has been generously donated by Mr Terry Rowles, in memory of his late wife Audrey. The Council had been asked by Somerset County Council to consider opening footpaths and bridleways within the parish. As most of the paths in the parish are also droves or cross agricultural land, and in view of the recent reported outbreak of foot and mouth disease near Chard. it was decided to defer any decision until the next meeting. The Council decided not to support a proposal to site recycling skips in the Neroche Hall car park. The next meeting will take place at 7.45pm on Thursday, 12th July. |
