Road safety issues were as usual to the fore and the Council noted that Somerset County Council is undertaking a speed management review by way of an overview of roiad safety in rural areas. A five year funding programme for new speed limites has been allocated and a summary of SCC's proposals should be available later in the year. Discussions regarding planning applications centred on the Crown estate's application for a residential development on the former builders' yard at Shoreditch. The Councillors had received a number of objections from local residents and determined that they were unable to support the present application which falls outside the designated development area and appeared to the Council to represent an over-dense development of the site. The Council also noted with regret that the visibility mirror installed at the Council's expense last year at the Orchard Portman junction had been destroyed by the Local Authority's hedge cutter! The matter will be taken up with W. S. Atkins. The next meeting will take place on Thursday 13th September at 7.45pm. |
