A tribute to S Harold Shattock - Devonshire Regiment |
| Harold Shattock volunteered to join the Somersets in Taunton but was sent packing when spotted under-age. Not to be dissuaded from fighting for his country, he went to Exeter in 1915 and joined the Devon Regiment. He went on to Passchendale and fought in The Third Battle of Ypres in 1917. Shell shock and trench feet took its toll in the months following demobilisation and the visit by Terry Rowles to Passchendale in April 2002 is dedicated to the memory of both his father Arthur Rowles and his father-in-law, Harold Shattock, for their courage and suffering in fighting for their country during two world wars. | ![]() |
