In 1947 Mr and Mrs Coles took over Hill Farm from Walter Quick who had been there since the beginning of the century. Mr. Coles came from a farm in Norton Fitzwarren, his wife came into the county as a landgirl. They run the 67 acres with the help of a student from a Farm Institute. Their lease states that the farm is in Orchard Portman, but this is because for civil purposes the two parishes have been combined under the name of Orchard Portman. The ecclesiastical parish boundary between the two is still Broughton Brook.
