OLD RECTORY, ORCHARD PORTMAN

Rectory, now dwelling. Probably C17, extensively altered and enlarged late C19. Roughcast over rubble, gable fronted with gulley between, coped verges, slate roofs, brick stacks centre of ridges and at rear left. Plan: parallel range. Gabled fronted. Two storeys, 1:2 bays, 2 and 3-light Tudor arch head hollow chamfered Ham stone mullioned windows under hoodmoulds with plate glass, right of centre C19 gabled timber porch, overhanging eaves side lights and diagonally boarded double doors, 2-bay right return, 3-bay left. Interior: not seen. The Kip view of 1707 shows only one range, the left one. (Britannia Illustrata, 1707).
