St. Mary's Church, Processional Cross
The fine processional cross was originally given by Bathpool Church in memory of Gordon Parsons who died on active service in Italy in 1944. His brother, Mr. Dennis Parsons, arranged for the cross to be moved to Stoke St. Mary when the church at Bathpool closed.
The first presentation includes this inscription at the base of the cross. "Presented to Bathpool Church by Mr and Mrs R Parsons in memory of their son Gordon Henry Parsons who was killed in action September 1944 in Italy". The second presentation includes this inscription on the reverse of the cross. "Presented to the Church of St, Mary on the closing of Bathpool Church, July 1982 by Dennis and Betty Parsons, brother and sister-in-law of Gordon Henry Parsons".
