Former farmer Keith Powell, conducted a 'beautiful service' when animals were blessed
at Thurlbear Church on Sunday 9th September. A congregation spanning four generations, from
a 19 month-old child to an 88 year-old, attended the service. Despite the 20 different
breeds of dog present, the service was quiet. There were two horses and two ponies, which
stood quietly to attention; a cockatiel; guinea pigs;
hamsters and rabbits. All behaved impeccably,
including their owners, making the service a 'reverent and cheerful occasion'. The collection
raised £73, of which £40 will go to the preservation of Thurlbear Church, which was open for the day.
